Rob has been busy creating a sheep Race for our milking sheep. He has been Cutting metal and welding and done a great job.
The idea behind this is the first week or so the ewes and lambs stay together. Then the weaning process begins just like weaning a child the lamabs have to learn to feed independantly.
The process is at night the ewes are seperated from their lambs. The lambs stay in the barn over night and fed and watered. The ewes go into the field. the next morning the ewes are milked and reunited with their lambs and they spend all day together. This process is then repeated daily until the lambs are weaned safely and eating independantly.
So that we can do this easily and with the sheep and lambs well being very important. We needed a seperating system at night for sheep and lambs. So Rob set to and built a race for this purpose. There is basically a run and at the end a gate. Lambs go one way back into the barn and ewes go the other and out to the field.
